A Shelter From The Storm

Celebrating
11 years of volunteer service
Nearly
4,000 rescues of cats and dogs in urgent need
Emergency
Rescue - There's usually no tomorrow for these critters without our
intervention.
Foster
Care - Based on the simple premise that a special kind of animal lover opens
their heart, and their home, to a rescued animal until a permanent home is
found. Volunteers take the animals for their vet trips and socialize
them. They mend broken bodies and broken hearts, sometimes breaking their
own in the process. Along the way they also prevent the need for
euthanization, reduce animal cruelty and overpopulation, and explore the bounds
of human-animal relationships. It's cost effective, but not without cost.
Placement
Services - It's all pointless unless they find a loving home for life.
Community
Education - The effects of indifference, ignorance, and cruelty are at work
each day. Our message of compassion, knowledge and advocacy must prevail.
Community
Spay/Neuter Operation - No other activity has a greater impact on population
control than "Targeted Spay/Neuter".
Dog
Housing Project - We need to do everything possible to facilitate proper
shelter against the elements.
A.C. PAW
is all volunteer. Each year thousands of hours of work (approximately
10,000) are required and the only compensation is the satisfaction in a job well
done.
Each
animal receives excellent vet care for all their needs. The money we save
by having no paid staff is directed to quality care for dogs and cats.
A.C. PAW
has an exceptionally liberal intake policy. Old dogs, orphaned kittens, injured
critters and parvo puppies, they all receive equal consideration and
approximately 1 in every 6 intakes is such a challenge.
A.C. PAW
has some of the most dedicated animal lovers as volunteers. Talk comes
easy, but these people put their love on the line on a regular basis.
A.C. PAW
has rescued nearly 4,000 animals, many of which would have died without our
intervention. Every animal is sterilized prior to adoption.
A.C. PAW
has facilitated an additional 600 spay/neuter operations in the community.
This has prevented many critters from entering an already over crowded
population stream.
A.C. PAW
has provided a good dog house to more than 150 dogs in need; many more are
waiting for our help.
FELINE
ADOPTIONS:
A.C. PAW holds several adoption sessions each week at the PetSmart Store in Traverse City, across from the Grand Traverse Mall. All A.C. PAW cats have been tested for Feline Leukemia, vaccinated and sterilized. Most have spent time with a foster parent who has provided a pet profile indicating how well they have adjusted in that home's setting. A volunteer adoption coordinator will be there to screen and assist in matching the pet to a prospective home.
CANINE
ADOPTIONS:
A.C.PAW dogs are held in foster care as well to provide an indication of how well they are socialized. This is no guarantee however, that they will act the same way in a new home. It is up to each adopter to supervise a new dog with children or others pets until they trust the newcomer.
Prior to adoption, A.C. PAW dogs are sterilized and vaccinated for distemper and, if old enough, vaccinated for rabies as well. All adopter are strongly encouraged to enroll in dog obedience training.
A.C.PAW was founded on July 1, 1995 and chartered as a Michigan nonprofit on January 16, 1996. Recognition by the IRS as a tax deductible charitable organization followed on December 16, 1996.
A.C.PAW is also listed as a registered shelter with the Department of Agriculture. Our annual report to the IRS (Form 990) is available upon request and can be found by visiting www.guidestar.org and looking up Antrim Count Pet & Animal Watch.
A.C.PAW operates in the five-county Grand Traverse area giving preference to Antrim and Grand Traverse Counties as this is where the majority of our volunteer and donor base comes from. We are hoping to increase our interaction with Leelenau County and call on volunteers and supporters to contact us. Every program described here needs additional volunteers, manager, and financial supports.
Don't hang back in the shadows. Step up and be recognized as someone who puts their love of animals into action!
Will you help provide a chance for more animals who have special needs?
Will you help attack the overpopulation problem?
Will you help strengthen the morale of our volunteers?
Will you help send a message of hope and compassion?
